News and notes for this week

A few items of news and note for this week:

  • The Esplanade HOA's Finance Committee is looking for additional members. The committee's function is to give advice to the HOA board on all matters of budgets and finance. Any HOA members who have any interest in financial matters, and would like to contribute to the committee's purpose in a positive and helpful fashion, are encouraged to help out. A meeting is scheduled for Monday evening (Feb. 29) at 6 p.m. in the Esplanade lobby area. Topics for discussion include:
    • Simplifying monthly HOA financial reports for posting on "The Esplanade News"
    • Looking for ways to increase the interest rate(s) being earned on the HOA's reserve funds

    • Water shut off - On Tuesday, March 1 the building's water will be shut off from 9:00 a.m. until 11 a.m. Smith Fire will be in the building working on a repair to a valve during that time.

    • The upper garage door has been damaged (once again). It is in the open position and will remain open until it gets repaired. As a reminder to all, wait until the door is all the way up before proceeding. Do not try and beat the door when it is trying to close. Use your remote to open the door.

    • The Book Club will meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3 in the community room. The book for discussion this month is Life After Life, by Kate Atkinson. Do come whether you've completed the book or not. Wine and snacks are also on the agenda; feel free to bring something to share if you like. The books for the next five months are:
      • April:  Timothy Egan, Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher
      • May:  Paula McLain, Circling the Sun
      • June:  David Mitchell, Slade House
      • July:  Paul Theroux, Deep South
      • August:  Gabrielle Zevin, The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry
