Dining and drinking review: Ammar's Mediterranean Grill

Getting tired of those Thanksgiving leftovers? That's a perfect excuse to try out a new downtown Tacoma restaurant this weekend. "The Esplanade News" brings you another review today of a "within-walking-distance" restaurant. Enjoy!

Ammar's Mediterranean Grill is located at 409 E. 26th Street

Fresh, fresh, and more fresh would be the perfect description for this Mediterranean grill. All items are truly fresh and made from scratch. Kabobs rule the menu. I had the chance to try the chicken kabob along with a Greek salad. Nice combination of spices and cooked really well.

Portions are plentiful and service is good. Try the hummus to start. It was very tasty with a hint of lemon flavor.

This place is near Freighthouse Square, so it is a little longer walk. The decor is a bit odd, with different personalities. It seems like they want to be a restaurant, sports bar, selling local artwork, and eclectic all at the same time. But I didn't mind since I'm all about the food.

Definitely worth a try if you're in the mood for a gyro or Mediterranean food.
