Drinking and dining review: Pacific Brewing

This is the third installment of Kurt Kwon's search for craft beer that suits his palate in our neighborhood. Lucky for Kurt, downtown Tacoma is quickly becoming a Hub (haha - pun intended!) for interesting, locally-produced brews. By my count, there are now six craft breweries within walking distance of the Esplanade, with a seventh, "Dunagan Brewing Company," soon opening on Commerce next to Mad Hat Tea. You can check out Dunagan's progress HERE.

It seems like eventually, someone in our building is going to have to organize a "brewery crawl" as a social event, seeing as we're fortunate enough to live in walking distance of all these tasty brews.

I finally found a brewery in Tacoma I like!  None of those fu-fu concoctions that other breweries call "beer." This place serves good, traditional, but creative-tasting beers. I was happy with my taster choices, all were crisp and had definitive character and flavor. The standout for me was the Potomac Citra Pale. The brewery describes it perfectly as "a medium bodied single hop beer showcasing Citra hops from the Yakima Valley. Potomac’s aroma provides strong citrus and tropical tones of grapefruit, melon, lime, and passion fruit."

They've done a great job in renovating the space. The service was efficient and friendly; perfect when you're thirsty on a hot day. Parking can be challenging, but hey, we all live close by to walk it! It will be worth the trip.
