News and notes for this week

Several items of news and note for this week:

  • Safety Committee meeting Tuesday - all invited
The Safety Committee will meet on Tuesday, 3/7 at 6:00 PM in either the community room or the game room. Please feel free to attend the meeting, especially if you are interested in joining the committee.

  • HOA meeting this Thursday - all invited
The next HOA board meeting will be on Thursday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. in the community room. This will be the first meeting of the newly-elected HOA board. There will be committee reports, budget updates, and time for resident questions. To see an unofficial summary of the last meeting click HERE.

  • Problems with cold air or odors coming from vents?
For residents who experience cold air or undesired odors coming from the vents in your kitchen or bath, this may be the solution. Esplanade resident Charlie Wollitz recently shared his success with installing dampers in these vents, to eliminate air flow back into the unit. Charlie noted that in his unit, the vents were 7" in the kitchen and 4" in the baths, although he suggested that residents first measure the vent size to be sure to get the correct size damper. Dampers can be purchased online HERE, or HERE, but once again, it is important to measure and make sure you order the correct size.

    • Plans scrapped for retirement community on the Foss
This is somewhat old news at this point, but the $85 million retirement community slated for construction just south of the Murray Morgan Bridge has been cancelled. See the Tacoma News Tribune article HERE, although there are no real details on how the FWDA and the City of Tacoma managed to let this development get away. Perhaps FWDA Executive Director Norm Gollub can explain: ngollub@theafoss.com.

    • Foss Waterway beautification group forming:
Downtown resident Jori Adkins, a retired landscape designer and urban planner, is interested in organizing a "Friends of the Foss" organization to help in beautifying the Foss Waterway. Click HERE for more information.
