News and notes for this week

    A few items of news and note for this week:

      • Do you want to use the Community Room on Easter? 
        A d
        rawing will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28th at 12:00 p.m. for a chance to win exclusive use of the Community Room on Easter Sunday, 2017. In the past, the Community Room has not been reserved for specific holidays, but this year it was decided to open up certain days via a drawing (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.). If you would like to enter the drawing please come to the office to enter, sometime before noon on 3/28. The normal rules for use of the room still apply - a damage deposit is still required, and a fee may be required based on the number of guests.

      • Guest speaker tomorrow night
        The Social Committee has now hosted three guest speakers in its series of "Esplanade Speaker Forums." These are not decision-making forums, but invited guest speakers. The next speaker, tomorrow, Tuesday, 3/28 at 7:00 p.m., will be Ricardo Noguera, the Community and Economic Director for the City of Tacoma. Mr. Noguera will speak and answer questions about development in Tacoma. In May, Bill Barsma, a former mayor of Tacoma, will speak on the city's history.


      • "Walk Tacoma" begins next Wednesday
        Every summer, free guided lunchtime walks are held on the first Wednesday of the month in downtown Tacoma. The first walk of 2017 is scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 at noon. The 1.3 mile walk, sponsored by Metro Parks and the Rhein Haus Tacoma, will start by the lion sculptures on the south side of Wright Park. It will take participants on an architectural history tour of Wright Park and the Stadium District led by Melissa McGinnis of Metro Parks, and Katie Pratt and Susan Johnson of Artifacts Consulting. Following the walk, join other participants for light appetizers and Happy Hour pricing at the new Rhein Haus Tacoma. The first 300 participants will receive a swag bag. Sign-in and bag pick-up will begin at 11:30 a.m. Click HERE for a full schedule of the walks.


      • Book Club sponsoring a movie night next Thursday
        The Esplanade Book Club will sponsor a movie night on Thursday, April 6, starting at 6:00 p.m. The movie will be Unbroken, a movie based on the book by Laura Hillenbrand, which was one of the Book Club's favorite books in recent months.
