Update on public art coming to former volleyball court

Last February, "The Esplanade News" reported on the dismantling of the standards in the volleyball court on the water side of the building, and subsequent plans to install public art in the space. See more information HERE and HERE. The photo at right shows artist Ed Kroupa working on one of the pieces slated for installation at the Esplanade.

Originally, installation of the art was scheduled for April, but it is now July and there is no art. Thankfully, Esplanade resident Tom Ebenhoh has been in contact with representatives from the Foss Waterway Development Authority and the City of Tacoma. An answer was delivered from Amy McBride, the City Arts Administrator

"We had to get a shoreline permit/exemption which has taken some time and required Ed to juggle some of his projects," McBride explained in an email. "We are looking to install in September with a dedication in October to coincide with arts month," she added.
